Bhelpuri or Puffed Rice Snack
This gluten-free Indian street food snack is a lifesaver. I absolutely love Bhelpuri or Puffed Rice Snack and can eat this almost every day. The dish is light, punchy and easy to make.
Prep time: 10 mins
Ingredients Bhelpuri or Puffed Rice Snack:
- Puffed Rice: 1 cup
- Onion: 1/2 chopped
- Green Chillies: 2-3 finely chopped
- Green Coriander Leaves: 1 tbsp. Chopped.
- Tomato: 1/2 chopped**
- Tamarind Chutney: 2 tbsp of tamarind pulp: 2 tbsp
- Sugar: 2 tsp
- Salt to taste/ black salt ( Preferably)
- Raw mango powder: 1 tsp
- Lemon Juice: 1 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder: 1/2 tsp ( If you like it less hot, please adjust according to your taste)
- Mustard oil: 1/2 tsp
Method:
- Dry roast the puffed rice. In a hot pan, add the puffed rice, and roast it on low heat for 2-3 minutes. Once the rice is crisp, turn off the heat.
- Make the sweet tamarind chutney: Soak the tamarind pulp in water for 5 minutes, crush the pulp with your fingers, discard the pulp, now in the tamarind water add the sugar and whisk it.
- Taste the tamarind chutney it should taste sweet and sour. Your chutney is ready.
- In a bowl, add the onion, chilies, coriander, tomatoes, salt, chili powder, and raw mango powder and mix well. Now add the puffed rice to this, add some tamarind chutney and mix well.
- Taste the bhelpuri, if it tastes sweet-sour-hot then it’s ready. If you feel a bit of fixing is required, fix it according to your taste.
Tip: ** you can add any other veggies according to your preference, like cucumber, mint, etc.
